The Cahuilla Indians have lived in the area for over 500 years, the Spanish came first in the early 1800′s and later in the 1800′s the town grew with a more European population. The name Palm Springs may have come in the 1860′s when a government surveyor saw that a spring was located at the base of “two bunches of palms”. The name stuck and has remained its name ever since.
